Frequently asked questions

FAQ: Image
  • What materials do you use for your paintings?

Firstly most substrates I use are wood or canvas. I use a range of materials on the surface, these can include acrylic and/or oil paint, gesso, paper, charcoal and graphite among others.

  • How do you finish your work? Is it varnished?

Depending on the materials used and the finish required, some works are finished with a cold wax finish or UV satin or matt varnish.

  • What materials do you use within your ceramic work?

For ceramic work I use mostly stoneware and porcelain clays, again with a range of additional materials as part of the body of the work or on the surface. These can include oxides, slips, papers and ink.

  • Are all your paintings framed?

This can vary. Most pieces are supplied with a beautiful frame designed to compliment the individual painting. Some pieces are supplied without a frame (for example if the substrate is deeper) but the specifics will always be stated within the item listing. Works on paper are occasionally mounted whilst others are supplied ready to frame so you can choose something suitable for your interior. Again, all details will be specified in the listing. Larger works are often unframed because they are either on a deeper substrate and have a modern look without framing, or because of the additional cost of shipping due to additional weight. However if this is something you would like to discuss, please email. I do not ship items framed behind glass due the delicate nature of the work and risk of damage.

  • Will the painting I receive be ready to hang?

If the painting you are purchasing is framed, it will be supplied ready to hang. If purchasing unframed, please refer to the listing - it will state if ready to hang.

  • I can't quite imagine what a painting will look/feel like in my home, how can you help?

If you'd like to view a specific painting or see what it looks like in your home, that's easy to arrange.

If you are local to me/ Wiltshire and wish to view a particular painting in person or have a home trial this can be arranged. Simply contact me to arrange a convenient time to view or arrange this.

A home trial is exactly as it sounds. It allows a potential buyer to borrow a painting for a period of time to see how it feels in their own home. There are simple but obvious terms that come with a home trial and details can be sent if you're interested. Please email.

If you are not local to Wiltshire but wish to see what a specific painting may look like in your home, I can easily arrange to photoshop paintings to scale in your home before making a decision. This can help you visualise what the piece may look and feel like in your own space. There is no obligation to purchase, it just helps to see what it may feel like. That's important! Simply email me.

  • How much is shipping?

Information on shipping can be found here

  • Can I pay for a piece in instalments?

Yes, this can be arranged for you. For any work over £300 you can pay in instalments. Please email and we can work out an arrangement that suits you. As soon as the final payment is made, your work will be shipped to you.

Paypal also now provide the facility to pay in 3 easy instalments between the value of £45-£2000. See here for more information.

  • How is my payment processed on your website?

Payments are taken in British Pounds Sterling through either Wix (website platform), Paypal or by direct bank transfer. Paying by bank transfer saves substantial Paypal and credit card fees. Please select 'Manual Payment' at the checkout and I will email an invoice in order for you to pay for your chosen piece. If paying by Paypal you do not need to have a PayPal account to purchase; you can use the PayPal service to pay with your regular debit or credit card.

  • Can I purchase a gift voucher?

Yes. You can purchase a gift certificate/s for friends and family in order for them to take their time and choose a piece or save up for a piece of work they love. More information about gift certificates can be found here.

  • What if I want to purchase a painting for someone else?

You can either choose a piece and purchase as normal online or by contacting me, or a more popular choice would be to purchase a gift certificate so the recipient can select a piece themselves. If selecting a piece for someone else please note this work cannot be exchanged/returned if they do not like it which is why it is a safer option to purchase gift certificates so they make a selection themselves.

  • The painting I had my eye on has sold!  How can I be sure to know about new work?

In order to be the first to see new work when it’s available simply make sure you join my mailing list to find out about all new work before it is added to my website. I don’t bombard you with emails, in all honestly I would rather be painting but you can also follow day ago day studio life on Instagram or Facebook to also see new work being made.

  • How will my painting be wrapped?

The packaging all depends on the size of the piece and is bespoke for the individual work. Paintings will be carefully packed using corner protection, glassine protective paper, bubble wrap and cardboard. Each piece is unique so I take great care in order to protect it fully so it will arrive in perfect condition. Some larger items sent internationally may need crating. For further details about delivery and shipping options please see shipping information.

  • Do you ship internationally?

Yes. Please read further information on international shipping here.

  • Can I return a painting?

I want you to be thrilled with your purchase but if there is an issue please email within 7 days of receipt. If a return is agreed, you will be required to wrap and ship the painting using exactly the same service with which it was sent and once the piece has arrive back safely you will receive your refund payment within 14 days, minus the shipping and payment processing fees.

Returns and refunds are not currently possible on work sent outside of the UK.

  • What about customs and taxes?

Buyers are entirely responsible for all customs and taxes in their own country. Please check the rules in your country before placing an order. Since Brexit many rules have changed. Unfortunately purchases cannot be returned or refunded on the basis of unexpected customs charges.

  • Are you taking on commissions?

At the moment I am not taking commissions as I am concentrating on developing my practice and creating new work. If you like my aesthetic then one of the new pieces coming up may be something you would like in your home in the future.
