These little paintings allowed for a desire to cut out the middle man i.e. abandon brushes, and work directly with the various materials on a more robust substrate. A need to dip into thick liquid emulsion after smearing and scraping back various pastes allowing the initial layers of hand applied acrylic to show through in areas appealed to my intuitive mind. A very different approach to my more delicate layers on linens.
